We all want to feel heard. Yet, in our daily conversations, how often do we truly listen—fully, actively, and without distraction? Too often, we’re not really listening; we’re waiting for our turn to speak, preparing our response, or—even worse—rushing in with advice before we’ve even understood the full story.
Active listening, or as the International Coaching Federation refers to it, "listening actively," is more than just hearing words. It’s about being fully present, engaged, and attuned to both what is said and what is left unsaid. When we listen at this level, we create space for deeper understanding, trust, and transformation. Research and experience show that people don’t always need solutions handed to them—they need to feel heard. They need someone to hold space for them, to ask thoughtful questions, and to help them uncover their own insights.
This month, I invite you to reflect on how you listen. Are you truly present in your conversations? Are you listening to understand, or simply to respond? When we master the art of listening, we don’t just strengthen our relationships—we open the door to greater connection, clarity, and growth.
Book of the Month!
Mindful Listening by Patrick King
This book is about a skill that isn't complex, but also not easy. It's a book about relationships and what drives them - what lets you into people's hearts. Making someone feel seen and heard and important is the highway to anyone's heart. So it's time to take a look at yourself, diagnose your issues with connection and listening, and attack new and old friendships with a more empathetic perspective.
